Just wanted to add this to the knowledge base for other NC owners. Simple and straightforward to license and insure. Could have been done in one trip to the DMV. I did 2 trips because the first time was to ask what to do.

The lady’s at the dmv filled out the MVR-59 for me so you don’t even have to do that before hand.

Title and Registration: UTVs must be titled and registered with the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Modified Utility Vehicle Affidavit (MVR-59): This form must be completed and notarized, typically at the DMV office, and signed by a licensed manufacturer, dealer, or someone engaged in vehicle manufacturing or modification.

Safety Inspection: A NC safety inspection is required before titling and registering.

Documentation: You'll need a bill of sale, the vehicle title, or Manufacturer Certificate of Origin (MCO), and proof of insurance.

Equipment: (you’ll have all this if you passed the safety inspection anyway) UTVs must be equipped with headlamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, a speedometer, seat belts

Wilburr, is that a full size plate or a motorcycle plate that you get?

Curious about the title afterwards, does it say off road only on it?

On that I’m not sure. I haven’t got the title back yet. They said it could be up to 30 days and it’s been less than a week. I’ll try to remember to check when it comes back and let you know.

I bought my Roxor in TN. The previous owner had already had it titled. I took it to the local DMV with proof of insurance, and was able to fully transfer the TN title to NC and receive a full sized license plate, no limitations or restrictions! I smiled all the way home!

Good for you two guys.
It is not that straight forward here in Missouri unfortunately.
Where I live, (Out In The Sticks) I can get by with a lot as long as I stay off main use highways.

I got a full plate in Georgia. The person wasn't sure, but I showed a picture of it and the supervisor said give him a full plate. I did however put a cj windshield and built a half cab on it. It looks like a cj at first glance and I have had no problem with it at all. It is a 19 so my gearing lets me keep up with highway traffic no issue.
They rewrote the title a bit and called it a 2 person passenger vehicle. Best part is the insurance called it a dune buggy and gave me full insurance for 140 a year.

Who did you use for insurance?

Paul G., Make sure you reread your insurance. When I initially received mine, it was for a full plate for the street. When I read over my insurance (they gave me one year for $200.00) I saw that they only listed it for off road. I had Progressive then. Now I have USAA.

I am insured for road use, but I only have liability insurance, not comprehensive. Now that it is registered and tagged, I may have other Insurance options. I’ll show around.

I'm with allstate. full coverage for 140 a year. mine is highway legal and classified as a dune buggy. how they come up with that I have no idea. It is a 19, chipped, with all roxor stickers gone. After putting on a cj windshield and rollcage with a steel cab I built, no one cannot tell it is not a jeep.
