Has anyone switched the 5.38 axles to a lower (faster) gear setup? Hoping to do so without tearing the machine completely apart if there is a gear ratio that will work with the factory

What’s your goal? How will you use the machine?

I believe Gear Changes work with out Carrier Changes are as follows.
392 and up
373 and down

Check with the place you are ordering gears to be sure.
For what I do 456 or 488 would both work very well. I have no need to go faster than 55 MPH.

Ckreklau,

I have a 2022 with the 2.5L and 5.38. I wanted to get out cheap, so I put the 1.5-inch shackle lift, 2-inch wheel spacers, and 35x10x16 Pro Crawler tires. I also put 3-inch extension (spacers) between the front bumper and the frame. I run @ 2400 rpm at 55-60 mph.

Using for short distances 2-10 miles on county/township roads, maybe to town and back 15 miles at a time, also farm use, a little snow plow use, maybe a little rip through some mud occasionally nothing excessive, pretty easy life for it. Goal, wondering if a gear change in the axles to run about 2000-2200 rpm at 55mph would be possible without tearing it completely apart. As stock 2250 rpm is 44-46 mph 5th gear on mine. Engine seems to have plenty enough power to handle a lower gearing. Not looking to win any races, but would want this machine to last a very long time for me. Over revering this motor going down the road would not help that goal...

Don’t know what you mean by tearing at all apart. To regear your gonna have to strip each axle down to just the housing and then put it all back together with the new gears plus have someone with the knowledge and tools to get the backlash and preloads set to spec. Seems that’s what you’re wanting to avoid. That only leaves one other option which is probably the same total cost or tad cheaper (could also be more expensive, lift kit is determining factor) than a regear and that’s to lift it and run larger tires. or if you’re lucky enough to find someone with 3.73s and just swap entire housings. Most likely I bet you end up with a lift and larger tires

Hey CK,

I agree with txroadkill, (nice name by the way). anyway, like I said in my previous post, I went with taller tires with no equipment tear down. I do believe the total cost was around $2000.00. I paid $1500.00 for 5 tires, an extra rim, bumper spacers (called steel blocks), 2-inch wheel spacers, and the shackle lift kit.

If I do weird angles like diagonally through a deep ditch my tires will scrub the rear fender well lips. I just need a higher lift.

I have stock 235/75R15 DOT tires, I have 2 inch spacers front, 1.5" spacers on rear axles. Sounds like I should use these tires up, and then think about a lift kit and bigger tires to get to the 55mph instead of pulling the axles apart now. I can live with that. That seems cheaper in the long run

The 35 x 10 x 16 Pro Crawler tires.

I went with 35 inch tires with only front leveling kit and longer shackles on the rear. I'm sure if I went to full articulation it would rub on the rear. The tires are not even centered in wheel wells. I also have 1 1/2 inch spacers. It lets me run 55 comfortably.

What's the hood name mean?
It is an old Navy/Marine Ordnance saying!

If You Ain't Ordnance, You Ain't *hit

My wife rolled her eyes when I put it on and then she asked me what it meant.

I do get a lot of honks from Vets while driving. Not sure if it is the acronym or the Roxor itself.
