Hey everyone, I was removing the dust caps on the front hubs to install some locking hubs and discovered some water. So I go investigating on how it got in. I found the outer bearing had been wet and most of the grease was washed out, but the inner bearing was fine so the hub seal was fine. F058212A-2D5C-4C97-BBE9-8791CD9A3982.jpeg so I went ahead and removed the spindle and found the source of water. There was little to no grease at the stub shaft bushing and seal from the start, allowing water to come in to the hubs. I was able to clean and repacked all the bearings and seals, but the main thing to get out of this is to pull the hubs and spindles and check/repack all bearings/seals to help prevent water damage since most of us off-road, before failure of bearings as no one likes to be broken down on the trail for something as simple as failed wheel bearings. After finding this I’ll be checking and greasing the hubs/spindle mid way throu the summer and at the end of hunting season.
 
Did you ever cross deep water?
 
Yes I did, but for me the passenger side had the water contamination while the driver side did not. Driver side still had some grease at the spindle seal, but not much. So that leads me to believe there was very little grease there to start with. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to check the hub/spindle condition. Repacking the bearings/seal should be part of Mahindra’s service schedule.
 
Mahindra should ensure this is done before it ever hits transport. For a company attempting to break into a market, I have questions..... I found a little more rust than i expected when I installed my CJ7 windshield!
 
I sent mine in to get the transfer case looked at for a leak, and they found that both front bearings were on the verge of going out, I went through about 3' of water to get to my cabin and that also let water into my transmission and transfer case.
got new bearings, starter, and tranny should be arriving, dropped it off in October, still waiting

Could you elaborate on that? I intend to drill a drain hole in the shock tower and spray paint and cosmoline inside the tower. I hate rust. I really really hate rust. I go well out of my way to prevent rust on everything so this will make me feel happy to kill another spot before it starts.

Also, how are your bearings after packing them yourself earlier this year?
 
I live on a river so I cross water A LOT! Going out to pack the bearings this afternoon!
 
Inner bearing may be a bit wet and loose. I have a vibration noise at faster speeds. Will get new ones and see if that makes it stop.
